Bio
“GEOFF D's music is the musical equivalent of Van Gogh's Starry Night, if Van Gogh's Starry Night played in a synthy, dance, rock worship band.”

FOR FUN.GEOFF D was the 2,034th baby born within the walls of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial Lawn Care Center. From a young age he excelled at cooking and movie critiquing; however, a freak accident with a radioactive pack of guitar strings infused his fingers with the power to play any guitar. Soon Geoff was traveling the Mid-West competing in Junior Guitar Playoff competitions. As his notoriety spread, he released numerous albums of classical guitar renditions of Presidential Inauguration Speeches (he transcribed their words into melodic notes and then tabbed it out). He became the youngest guitarist to win the Baskin Robbins Music Award for his 1994 album Little GEOFFY Sure Can Play!
Unfortunately, the limelight was a cruel mistress, and before long, Geoff had gotten in with the wrong crowd. He'd stay out late in his teens playing in Bluegrass bands and throwing tired pick up lines at female washboard players. As his mental condition spiraled, Geoff's performances became more erratic, he became known for trying to do the cinnamon challenge while simultaneously playing the "Free Bird" solo. On March 18, 1997, Geoff hit rock bottom. At the Newport Folk Festival (as a guest, not a performer) he had a minor meltdown that involved his dying his hair pink and throwing cabbages at concert goers. The following week, Geoff entered a rehabilitation clinic. It was there that Geoff resolved to turn his life around and leave behind his reckless ways. As an ever-constant reminder of his sketchy past, he forever left a single lock of his hair electric pink, lest he forget that fateful day in Newport. Nowadays Geoff can be found residing in Port St. Lucie, FL, where he spends his time sandboarding, windsurfing, as well as many other sports that people who can't surf enjoy. Using the money he made on his come back tour, Geoff opened a chain of the popular Peruvian restaurant, La Granja, where he now works 5 days a week from 8:30 until he gets tired and wants to go home. Thanks to Chris (of Chris & Jenna) for this most imaginative and almost inspirational contribution. |
FOR REAL.For GEOFF D, making music is a journey that requires him to overcome selfish inhibitions in pursuit of true freedom - “It’s always been about the Gospel - [music] is just a vehicle for it.” Traditional instrumentation, generic rhymes, social expectations and even personal comforts are set aside for the purpose of proclaiming biblical truths atop new soundscapes. Organic and electronic textures are seamlessly woven into a tapestry of musical elements intended to draw attention to God’s glory and prompt conversations about the integration of faith in life.
A high-energy and personal approach assists Geoff in accomplishing his desire to equip upcoming generations in the pursuit of God. Geoff has explicitly set out to share the message of hope in Jesus Christ and encourage the Church. This pursuit has taken him to England, Belize, Mexico, Australia, Kenya, Haiti, Papua New Guinea and all over the U.S. sharing about the love of Jesus. At home, Geoff serves as a teacher and lead worshiper at Crosstown Chapel in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He released the Fall of Love EP in November 2012, the Shout LOUD! EP in October 2013, the FOR FUN. FOR REAL. album in February of 2014, a Christmas remix entitled “His Glory Revealed (O Night Divine)” in December of 2014 and is currently working on his next full-length album. Geoff stays active serving in leadership in his church community, discipling fellow believers and working with other artists. When he finds himself with a few extra moments, he enjoys bicycling, skateboarding, teaching guitar, producing for other artists, reading, talking about gear and eating at La Granja. |
...the rest of the story
A Note from GEOFF D:
Friends, allow me take a moment to explain how i've come to understand life. i'll never forget the dark night when i realized life was not about me. It was the best night of my life.
The world around us would like us to believe that life is what we make it. This has never been nor ever will be the case. There are circumstances beyond our control and it is precisely our trying to control these things that will drive us mad and leave us desperate.
Before everything there was God. By Him all things were divinely created. He created everything we perceive with our senses and placed within humans a soul that exists beyond the physical. Mankind was created perfect, but the first two humans, Adam and Eve, decided that instead of trusting the words of their Creator God (with whom they enjoyed a perfect relationship), they would take matters into their own hands and eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in which God had warned them not to indulge. Their disobedience had consequences. They were sent away from the Garden of Eden in which God had placed them and could no longer relate to God in perfection. Pain and turmoil of every sort are a result of their choice.
Everyone born since then has fallen short of God's perfection. This falling short is called sin and everyone has sinned. The result of sin is death. Without intervention, everyone would not only die physically but we would be cutoff from God spiritually.
Now check this out...
God is full of love toward humanity. Let me prove it to you. Immediately, after Adam and Eve sinned, God established a system by which man could be made right with Him. An animal without blemishes was offered as a sin sacrifice, the blood of which covered over the sin of the one who offered it. This system continued for centuries until at the perfect time, God gave the ultimate sacrifice: He sent His only Son (Jesus Christ) to become human and die so that we wouldn't have to. Isn't that the ultimate of love?
Jesus Christ wasn't an ordinary man. He had no biological father; rather His divine seed was carried by a human mother (Mary) and He lived a life like us -- with all the physical, emotional and spiritual pressures we face. As both God and man, He lived the perfect life, but humanity hated Him for it and eventually convinced the government to put Him to death. This, however was all part of God's plan to save humanity through offering Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice to cleanse humanity.
Jesus Christ rose from the dead after having been placed in a tomb for three days. He was seen by hundreds of eye witnesses after His resurrection then ascended to heaven leaving with us the promise of His return. Because He is alive, we don't have to die spiritually.
We have a choice: to reconnect with God and experience life with Him forever after we die (that's called "heaven") or to remain in our current, sinful condition and spend forever apart from Him after we die physically (that's called "hell").
The great news is that anyone can reconnect with God by admitting that they are not perfect and need Jesus Christ's perfect blood to cleanse their sinful soul. Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead and commit to making Jesus Christ the Master of your life and you will experience life that lasts forever. Deciding to follow Christ is the most radical but incredible decision you'll ever make!
Though all the Bible centers around this true story, much of the information above can be read in the books of Genesis, the Gospel of John and Romans. Please contact me for more information about reconnecting with God.
